Tile edging is a process of changing the edge of the tile or table top to suit your design requirements.

Also called the profile of the tabletop/ countertop or tile, this is when the shape is changed by removing material (a bevel) or adding material (lamination).

Tile edging or profiling options are limitless but basic examples include cutting a 45-degree angle from the edge, machining a half bullnose on a table top or giving the tile edge a perfect flat polished look.

Kanzen can cut/machine bullnose edging profiles for your tile or countertop of most standard-size slabs and tiles.

Popular edgings include:

  • Half bullnose edging
  • Full bullnose edging
  • Basic 45-degree bevel edging

bullnose profiling

Bullnosing is a great way to transform your stone or tile edge into a smooth and beautifully stylish look. Not only does tile profiling add a beautiful finish to the product but it is also a practical way to protect the corners from chipping and damaging easily.

Half bullnose is where the top edge of the table top or tile is machined into a round shape from the bottom to the top. The half bullnose has endless applications in most materials including porcelain and stone.

Full bullnose is where both the top and bottom edge is rounded to create a semi-circle shape. This application is ideal where an overhang is required on table tops or material with a thickness greater than 19mm or where the material was laminated.

Beveling refers to material cut away at an angle, on one or more edges. Typical applications are where sharp edges are removed with a 45-degree cut. Beveling is a quick process and a cost-effective way to get value added to your material edge.

laminated edges

Lamination is the process of affixing a small strip of the same type of material to the edge of your tile or stone slab. This process typically doubles the edge size of your material.

With 14 years of experience in laminating tile and natural stone, we have perfected the process in such a way that the joint is almost invisible, permanent, resilient and guaranteed.

Tile or slab lamination is very popular when you want to give a thinner material a chunkier look, and also where you need more material to give it a rounded finish such as a full bullnose.

A simple example is where a 10mm porcelain tile is used on a table top, but you want the tile edge to be 20mm, giving it the feeling of a thicker table throughout.

Laminated Edges

edge profile (bevel)

Edge profiles are endless but as a supplier, we are limited to the number of tool options we stock. The following options are currently supported, but please be sure to ask us for updated options during your fabrication quotation.

During the fabrication and cutting process, the material is removed with a specialized diamond tool moulded in a predefined shape and size.

Profile shapes can be very intricate, but some restrictions exist depending on the type of material used, such as quartz.
